Resetting Sleep Routines Before School Goes Back

feet happy family

School holidays often mean later nights, sleep-ins, and flexible routines — and that’s okay. But as we head into the final weeks, gently shifting sleep back toward a school-friendly schedule can make a big difference.

A few helpful strategies:

  • Start moving bedtime and wake-up time earlier by 10–15 minutes every few days.
  • Re-establish a consistent wind-down routine (bath, quiet play, reading, cuddles).
  • Reduce screens at least an hour before bed, especially for children who struggle to settle.
  • Keep mornings calm and predictable, even if sleep hasn’t fully adjusted yet.

Sleep doesn’t usually “snap back” overnight. It’s a gradual process, and that’s normal. A little patience now can save a lot of stress during the first week back.
